PT DERMAGA BUMILAUT operates an elite, 24/7/365 Emergency Ocean Towage and Marine Rescue Division (Derek Laut) providing rapid intervention for distressed, disabled, and drifting vessels across Batam, the Singapore Strait, the Malacca Strait, and throughout Indonesian regional waters. Strategically headquartered at Jembatan 2 Trans Barelang, Batam, our specialized rescue fleet of high-bollard-pull ocean tugboats, certified salvage masters, and marine engineers stands on immediate standby to mitigate catastrophic marine perils, safeguard crew lives, protect multi-million dollar maritime assets, and prevent environmental disasters.

Critical Emergency Response Scenarios

1. Vessel Blackout (Total Electrical Failure & Dead-Ship Towage)

A vessel blackout represents an acute maritime emergency where loss of main generation triggers immediate loss of steering, propulsion, navigational lights, and radar. In congested fairways and strong tidal currents, a blacked-out vessel drifts unpredictably toward shallows, reefs, or oncoming traffic.

Immediate Drift Arrest & Collision Prevention: Rapid deployment of high-power escort tugs to arrest uncontrolled vessel drift and secure a safe sea perimeter.
SOLAS-Compliant Emergency Towing Arrangement (ETA): Expert connection to emergency towing systems and bridal wire configurations under severe sea conditions.
Auxiliary Power & Technical Support: Delivery of mobile marine diesel generators and specialized electrical technicians to assist onboard crew in re-energizing essential switchboards, steering gear pumps, and communication systems.
Dead-Ship Towage to Safe Berth: Safe towing and port maneuvering of completely de-energized vessels to designated anchorages, shipyard repair drydocks, or industrial jetties.

2. Main Engine Breakdown (Engine Stop & Propulsion Loss)

Main engine failure—whether caused by crankshaft seizure, turbocharger casualty, scavenging fire, lube oil system collapse, or propeller entanglement—leaves vessels immobilized at sea. Our emergency towage services provide immediate heavy-duty pull and long-range transport.

High-Bollard-Pull Ocean Towage: Deployment of modern twin-screw ocean tugboats ranging from 2,000 BHP to 5,000+ BHP delivering 30 to 65+ tons of continuous bollard pull.
Dynamic Towing Gear & Surge Damping: Utilization of high-tensile steel wire ropes (SWR) paired with synthetic shock pennants (HMPE / nylon grommets) engineered to absorb extreme wave-induced dynamic loads.
Heavy Commercial Vessel & Barge Convoy Recovery: Capable of handling fully laden bulk carriers, container ships, tankers, accommodation barges, and disabled tug-barge units.
Safe Haven Transshipment & Docking: Towage to approved maritime repair facilities, drydocks, or sheltered berths for hull and propulsion overhaul.

3. Steering Gear Breakdown & Rudder Malfunction (Kemudi Trouble)

Loss of steering control poses an immediate grounding and collision hazard, particularly when transiting traffic separation schemes (TSS), narrow dredged channels, or river estuaries. We deploy specialized escort and directional towing tactics to regain complete course control.

Tethered Stern Escort Towing: High-speed stern tethering providing active braking, dynamic indirect steering forces, and immediate heading correction.
Directional Steering Control: Multi-tug configurations counteracting uncontrolled yaw and guiding the rudderless vessel through complex navigational bottlenecks.
Confined Waters & Harbor Berthing: Controlled escort through busy port approaches and precision push-pull maneuvering to secure safe alongside berthing at terminal piers.

Fleet Capabilities & Salvage Equipment

Certified Ocean Tug Fleet: Modern, well-maintained ocean-going tugboats equipped with heavy hydraulic towing winches, quick-release tow hooks, and satellite navigation tracking.
Heavy-Duty Dewatering & Firefighting: Onboard high-capacity submersible salvage pumps (100–500 m³/hr) and FiFi-standard fire monitors for concurrent emergency response.
Rapid Response Rigging Gear: Heavy chafe chains, towing bridles, delta plates, towing shackles, and emergency messenger line throwers for swift hook-ups in adverse weather.
Certified Marine Personnel: Master mariners, licensed marine engineers, certified commercial divers, and experienced riggers trained in international salvage protocols.

Port Authority Liaison & Regulatory Clearance

Our operational management handles complete administrative, regulatory, and technical liaison with relevant maritime authorities including KSOP (Kantor Kesyahbandaran dan Otoritas Pelabuhan), Pelindo, Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), Indonesian Navy/Polairud, and marine insurance underwriters (P&I Clubs). We ensure expedited emergency movement permits, gas-free safety documentation, and compliant harbor entry under standard international towing contracts (BIMCO TOWCON / TOWHIRE or Lloyd's Open Form).
